Nowhere Boy: A rundown of the movie. SPOILER ALERT.

I randomly downloaded this movie because I was looking for inspiration for my thesis. I don't know why my mind kept on thinking about mods vs rockers but it led me to this site that has a list of rockers and their movies, hence the random download of Nowhere Boy and I'm Not There.

Nowhere Boy was so much better than the Bob Dylan-inspired I'm Not There. It was a bit confusing to me and kind of boring. I also found that the accents were too heavy and hard to understand... or maybe folk music was just not my thing. Anyhoo, the movie begins in Little Lennon's home and we see him being taken care of by her uncle and aunt and down here we see him being forced to wear his glasses.

He wears them but takes them off as soon as his back is turned from her aunt. Apparently, it's not cool to wear those glasses at the time. Oh look, what a chic satchel bag! Also, kewl bike you have thur.

This one's a pretty big scene where he gets the name "The Quarrymen" for his first band. The principal/dean/someonebig told him he's going nowhere if he continues with the low grades and shit (tadaaaa, that's where the title comes from) and he's all pissed and like, "Oh, so geniuses have nowhere to go then.." or sumthin like that.

His uncle dies and everything changes.

That red-haired woman is Lennon's momma.

Totes, handsome down here ni Aaron Johnson.

Everything is confusing at first but then we realize that his mum lives just a few blocks from his house and they just walk. They spend a day together and here we see that music runs in the family.
His mom is awfully cool and knows what good music really is and that's where Lennon gets his inspiration from.

Oh, I love how the colors of their outfits are at play here. The momma in red and she's the only one who's so bold to wear that color there. It could also somehow symbolize or refer to her being...uhm, slutty. Sorta. You know, kinda like "The Scarlet Letter".

This is where John Lennon hears his first Rock n' Roll music and of course, his mom is so cool that she dances along to the jukebox playing and people would stare at her and she wouldn't care.

His mom explains to him that Rock n' Roll means "sex", check the subtitle :))
(I think it's German, I couldn't remove it hehe)

They watch a movie together and of course Elvis Presley is on and the girls are screaming at the screen! :))

He gets inspired and he does his hair like a real rocker. The infamous pompadour! ILOVEIT.

We see Teddy Boys there and Lennon and his friend as rockers. Teddy boys were first and they were inspired by the dandies back then. After the teddies, the real rockers came about....or the Rockabillies I think. Haha.

Teddy Boys VS Rockers

They play Screaming Jay Hawkins here

His mom is so cool she teaches him how to play the banjo!

This scene is cool, everything is moving pretty fast and he's just there strumming the banjo very slowly...

And now he's pretty fast!

and of course, ends the banjo-playing with a cute smile. DAMN, SON.

He hears his mom and his sorta step-dad fighting and not letting Lennon stay at their place anymore and decides to leave on his own. He says good-bye but his mom doesn't reciprocate and tries to ignore him.

By now, he's gone back and forth from his aunt's house to his mom's and back for quite a while we realize he IS sorta kind of a "nowhere boy".

He tells his aunt/step-mum that he wants to be a rocker and together they go and buy his first guitar!
He says something like, "It's just three chords mimi, it's that simple...it's rock and roll!"

and together, they haggle like a boss. They leave with happy with pride...

and John stares at the beautiful guitar on his bed.

He forms a band called The Quarrymen.

 and here we see PAUL!

Whatta cutie.

He's introduced to John...

and shows 'em what he's got.
John Lennon pretends he's not impressed...

but then asks for guitar lessons from Paul and here he says, "What? It's my Buddy Holly look!" and he was sooo cute tharr.

I love their shoes here and they're just jammin' along.

 Fast forward to John's birthday...

He asks where or who his dad is

and he finds out that his momma was malandi and his dad was a soldier somewhere and blahblahblah, Mimi (the aunt) "stole" him away from le mom because le dad was about to take him to New Zealand. Now we know why Mimi is the one taking care of John and they get into a huge fight and Lennon gets drunk. He wakes up deciding to forgive both girls...

and reminds the two ladies that "You were sisters once..." or something like that. Now they're friends again and all is well in the world. Everyone's in good terms...

and Lennon is happy and is singing a song he wrote for (I assume) his mom.

THEN...HIS MOM DIESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

it came unexpectedly (for me) so I cried. I WAS LIKE, "OMG?!?! WTF?!?!!? THEY WERE JUST SO HAPPY SUN BATHING TOGETHERRR!!! WHY DID SHE HAVE TO GET HIT BY A CAR AND DIEEEEEE?!?!!?" :(((((

He punches Paul and they hug it out like a bro. His mum leaves some money for him and they use it to record their songs and flashback of Lennon and his mom were shown and in the end, he calls Mimi his mom AND guardian and she cries...and I cry... and it's written in the screen that when Lennon arrived at Hamburg, he called Mimi...and every day after that for the rest of his life. :< :< :<

The movie was really good. If you wanna watch it after reading this, I'm sure you'll have a good time. Sorry for the spoiler but if I downloaded a good movie (in my opinion) and I liked/loved it so much, it's become a habit for me to screen cap cool moments and share it to the world!
